PATRICIA M. MAYER is a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania sitting in the Reading Division. She was appointed to the bench by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2019, after 22 years of private practice representing consumers and small business debtors in bankruptcy. Judge Mayer was sworn in on March 11, 2020, just days before the statewide shutdown due to COVID-19 and she spent her first year on the “virtual bench”. Judge Mayer graduated magna cum laude from DeSales University with a B.A. in Politics and received her J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law. Judge Mayer is a past chair of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, was a board member and volunteer attorney for the Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project (CBAP), a Third Circuit community leader for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) and is a frequent lecturer and course planner for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. In 2014, Judge Mayer served on the Local Rules Committee tasked with drafting the Model Chapter 13 plan used in the district as well as a comprehensive review and revision of the Local Rules. In her spare time, she enjoys ballet class, yoga, Peloton and watching sports or Netflix with her husband and sons.
