Jolene Tanner is an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Tax Division, in Los Angeles California, where she handles tax litigation in the Central District of California, including bankruptcy tax litigation. The Central District of California consists of 5 federal courthouses and 20 active bankruptcy judges that serve 40,000 square miles, seven counties, and over 19 million people. AUSA Tanner also serves as the Office’s Criminal Bankruptcy Fraud Referral Coordinator.
 
Previously, Ms. Tanner was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Mark D. Houle, and for the Honorable Deborah J. Saltzman, Bankruptcy Judges in the Central District of California. Ms. Tanner was Judge Houle’s law clerk when he sat pro tem on the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. During law school, Ms. Tanner externed for the Honorable Sheri Bluebond, Bankruptcy Judge.
 
Ms. Tanner earned her J.D. from Loyola Law School where her honors included Law Review and Moot Court. Ms. Tanner’s law review article Stern v. Marshall: The Earthquake That Hit the Bankruptcy Courts and the Aftershocks That Followed, 45 Loy. L.A. L. Rev. 587 (2012), is cited in multiple publications including amicus curiae to the Ninth Circuit and Supreme Court. She earned her B.A., cum laude, from the University of California Santa Barbara.
